Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.
According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for between 1.5 and 2.5 hours per week in Kindergarten to Year 6 and for 300 hours per year in Years 7 to 10.
PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.
In Year 11 and 12, courses available include:
- Community and Family Studies
- Community and Family Studies Life Skills
- Exploring Early Childhood
- Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
- Personal Development, Health and Physical Education Life Skills
- Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation Studies.
We are committed to providing the opportunity for every one of our students to engage in one hour of physical activity every day. Students enjoy a well equipped playground featuring a trampoline, two large play centres, swings and a wide variety of sporting equipment.
Our 2 school buses provide access to the local leisure centre, where students swim in the heated pool all year round. Students also visit local tennis courts, bowling alleys, parks and beaches, so that they are comfortable in a variety of local settings.
All students bike ride once each week. This activity incorporates literacy and numeracy activities. Students progress through stages ranging from an in school setting to a community setting where they might ride for kilometres at a time.
We host an athletics carnival very second year and students love competing against students from other support classes all over the region.
